Transgender Employees: Creating an Inclusive Work Community
A comprehensive one-day course introducing the importance and elements of safe, inclusive workspaces for transgender employees. Participants will explore terminology, personal and societal biases, the power of language, safe space design, ally behaviors, and workplace policy development to build and sustain a respectful and productive environment for everyone in the organization.

Why Inclusion Matters Every person in your workplace is there because of the skills and expertise they bring. When someone feels uncomfortable, excluded, or threatened, they cannot fully engage in their work or the environment around them. The effects on one person ripple outward, impacting the entire team. Research conducted by TransPULSE with more than 400 transgender people in Ontario, Canada (2010–11) paints a sobering picture: **71%** held a college or university degree, yet **50%** had an annual income below $15,000. **49%** reported receiving verbal harassment because of their identity. **51%** reported being diagnosed with depression or anxiety. These statistics highlight the real-world cost of exclusion — not just for individuals, but for workplaces as a whole. Two Perspectives, One Goal As a **cisgender person** — someone whose self-identity aligns with their assigned gender — learning how to interact respectfully and professionally with a transgender colleague gives you the tools to create safety and comfort for everyone. As a **transgender person** — someone whose self-identity differs from the gender assigned at birth — having a safe, inclusive environment supports good health, strong working relationships, and sustained productivity.
