Why Change Can Be So Difficult Change is one of the most consistent features of modern life — yet it remains one of the hardest things for people to navigate. As a self-leader, developing your capacity to manage change effectively is essential. Understanding *why* change feels threatening is the first step. Change expert **Daryl Conner** outlines the human reaction to change through the lens of our fundamental need for control: 1. **People have a need for control.** Feeling in control of our environment is a deep human need.
