Defining Neuro Linguistic Programming Have you ever wondered what it really means to "think about thinking"? Neuro Linguistic Programming — or NLP — is exactly that. Let's break the name into its three core components: **Neuro** refers to your brain. NLP assumes that all behavior originates from and is controlled by the brain. **Linguistic** refers to the ways you communicate those brain-driven processes — through your words, non-verbal signals, and body language. **Programming** means that since you are in charge (consciously or unconsciously) of how you communicate these processes, you can choose to change how you represent the signals coming from your brain. This set of representations is called a **strategy**. Put together, NLP is about: Thinking about thinking Studying how you structure your experiences Determining what strategies work in a way that can be modeled, documented, and reproduced Creating a way to teach your subconscious — much like how you learned to walk and talk In practice, NLP helps you identify the ingredients for success and apply them to improve how you interact with the world.
