Creating a Sales and Marketing Strategy Marketing is a cyclical process—you'll constantly loop back to refine your approach as you learn more about your customers and market. Here's an overview of the six-stage marketing cycle: Stage 1: Consumer and Market Analysis Research your customer deeply. Who is buying your product? Who is using it? What is their buying process? Use segmentation to identify distinct customer groups based on needs, demographics, behavior, and geography. Evaluate each segment on six criteria: **Measure, Access, Growth, Profit, Retention, and Defend**. Stage 2: Analyzing the Competition and Yourself Conduct a SWOT analysis on your own company and then repeat the process for each key competitor. Identify your unique selling proposition and begin thinking about how to position your product in the market. Stage 3: Analyzing Distribution Channels How will your product reach the customer? Options range from direct-to-consumer online sales to multi-layer distribution networks (manufacturer → wholesaler → distributor → retailer). Each layer adds value and takes a profit margin, so choose wisely. Stage 4: Creating a Marketing Plan (The 6 Ps) **Product:** How will you differentiate your offering (style, warranties, service, size)? **Price:** Will you use penetration pricing, psychological pricing ($39.99 vs $40), loss leaders, or meet-or-beat strategies? **Place:** Where and how will customers access your product? **Promotion:** What advertising, PR, social media, and
