Business writing is: **Action-oriented**, not reflective — it includes clear calls to action. **Read once**, not repeatedly — it must be immediately clear. **Clear and concise** — your reader should never be confused about what you want. **Plain and practical** — stick to facts and avoid ambiguity or colorful embellishment. **Free of symbolism** — any references must be explained. Proposals vs. Tenders It's important to distinguish between a proposal and a tender before you start writing. **Proposals** are: Service-focused offers to solve a problem or provide a product/service. Not based on a pre-determined product — you are recommending solutions. Originated by the service provider after an initial information-gathering meeting. **Tenders** are: Requests for bids on a specific, already-defined product or service. Client-initiated, often with a known budget and specification. Focused on a pre-determined outcome. Types of Proposals Proposals are persuasive documents — not merely a mechanical list of facts.
